The working principle of a diaphragm pump involves steps such as:

  • Diaphragm Movement: this pump has a diaphragm that moves back and forth usually driven by mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic means.
  • Suction Stroke: Vacuum created when the diaphragm moves away from the pump's chamber  causes the inlet valve to open and allows fluid to enter the chamber.
  • Discharge Stroke: The diaphragm compresses fluid as it moves back towards the chamber creating pressure that causes the inlet valve to close and the discharge valve to open, pushing the fluid out of the pump.
  • Valves: The pump has inlet and discharge valves that control the flow of fluid ensuring the fluid moves in the correct direction, preventing backflow.
